The
University Heights Garden Club
was formed in order to design, plant and maintain the flower bed
in the city-owned triangle area at the intersection of Melrose,
Koser and Golfview. It was started last year by Scott and Carol
Ann Christiansen of 1461 Grand Ave. It meets nearly every Saturday
at 9:30 a.m. from April until the frost in the fall. (A sign is
posted in the garden for notification.)
Come
once, twice or every week to help.
The
purchase of plants, services, mulch, etc. for the city garden is
covered entirely by donations, and the club would like to add more
city garden areas in the future. Donations are always appreciated!
Garden Club News
(April 2007)
Spring is in the air! The grass is greening and the trees are budding.
Yes, the University Heights Garden Club is asking for donations
for the garden spots by Taste on Melrose and the Triangle park/flag
pole areas. This year we will repair a few blocks around the garden,
add some good bagged black dirt, and of course, buy annual plants
to add to the perennial part of the garden. We need your support!
There is a special
account at Hills Bank for the garden club. Make checks out to Carol
Ann Christiansen (not to Garden Club because we’re not set up as
a non-profit.) The books are open for viewing at the garden club
meetings. Meetings are on some Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m. A
sign is posted in the garden before upcoming meeting dates. Bring
your garden tools, or just a cup for coffee and some ideas you want
to share. Taste on Melrose generously lets us use their outdoor
patio to meet and greet.
The
UH Garden Club is organizing a neighborhood garden walk
before the Chautuaqua - Sunday, June 10 from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m.
If you are interested in having your home garden included on the
walk contact Carol Ann Christiansen or Louise From. There is no
garden too small or too large. This should be a fun event for all
and include all styles of gardens from small planting areas/potting
gardens/vegetable gardens to large landscaped spaces. Join in the
fun! Carol Ann Christiansen 354-7188 or e-mail Louise From at louise-from@university-heights.org
