Tied bundle of sticks

Residents may take yard waste to the compost facility at the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center at no charge.

To have branches and other plant material collected curbside on Tuesday mornings:

  • Place yard waste in Johnson County Refuse bags, available for purchase at Fareway on Westwinds Drive. (These are paper bags that have the JCR logo.)
  • Cut branches to size and bundle with garden twine.
    • The bundle can be no more than 36 inches around and 36 inches long.
    • One bundle will be collected free of charge each week. Additional bundles must have a bag attached.
